Brown, Cheryl

Emeritus Associate Professor of Resource Economics and Management

Cheryl Brown is an Emeritus Associate Professor in the Division of Resource Economics and Management at West Virginia University. She received her B.S. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. She taught for 5 years at Southeast Missouri State University before moving to West Virginia University in 2002. At WVU she served as undergraduate coordinator for the Division of Resource Economics and Management and taught undergraduate courses in agricultural marketing, sustainable living, social enterprise development, and environmental and resource economics. She was a member of the first cohort of IDEA (Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship Academy) Fellows. She advised undergraduates and graduate students and won a 2015-2016 Nicholas Evans Faculty Advising Excellence award. Her research focused on multiple aspects of agricultural sustainability, including organic and direct marketing, small farm viability, local and regional food system development, community food security, and impacts of the food system on health. She served six years as president of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition.
